5 Elements — Metal

Autumnal Equinox means the beginning of Metal Phase in TCM 5 Element Theory. According to this ancient, macro-understand of Creation, all phenomena of the universe correspond in nature to Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Nature. The Elements (or Phases of Creation) are in a state of constant motion and change, interdependent on each other for the Production of Life here on our Pale Blue Dot.

Metal is Yang transitioning into Yin, it sits between the two poles of Summer (Fire - Utmost Yang) and Winter (Water - Utmost Yin). Metal corresponds with our Lungs and Large Intestines. The Lungs are the Governor of Qi (breath!) and houses the Corporeal Aspect of our Spirit. The “Corporeal Soul,” or Po, is the part of our consciousness that connects us to the physical world. Like our Skin for Air, the Lungs are a “door” to the outside world — BREATH. The Lungs dominate our Wei Qi (Defensive Qi — Immunes). Metal is meant to Defend as well as to Refine (letting go, literally ; Large Intestines). LIke an axe to a tree, Metal Controls Wood. Like tea in a tea pot, Metal Generates / Shapes Water.

Tune yourself to Nature! Sync to Metal! The color of Metal is White, Gold, or Silver. Wear it (especially as clothing or jewelry because of its connection to SKIN). It’s Flavor is Spicy. Eat it! In Qi Gong, the sound made is a hissing sound: ssssssssss. The Lungs and Large Intestine’s unfavorable emotions are sadness, depression, grief, sorrow and feelings of isolation and the inability to forgive and let go. The favorable emotion or virtue is courage. The shape is sphere or round.

When you find yourself caught in the negative aspect of Metal, take a round shape, put on your gold and silver, and be brave! HISSSSSSS away all that Bad Qi.
