Hexagram 19. Advancing ; June 20, 2024

Invariable, kind virtue of the universe, Please respond to the variable question of my human life. Offer me guidance today, this Summer Solstice, June 20, 2024, through a hexagram and a line.

I started casting I Ching a few years ago now. However, it is only recently that I’ve started using Hua-Ching Ni’s translation. The Ni family lineage in Taoism dates back at least 74 generations. The lineage has been maintained through continuous transmission of Taoist teachings and practices, as well as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) knowledge. The Ni family’s approach emphasizes integrating traditional Taoist principles with modern practices to maintain and enhance health and spiritual well-being. Hua-Ching Ni is still alive today at well over 100 years old. I’ve come to realize that my teachers should have the “proof in the pudding.”

Which brings me to Ram Das. Be Here Now offered me my first spiritual experience outside of the religion I grew up with. It gave me permission to find my own voice in spiritual matters and revealed the power in being able to wear more than one spiritual hat. If our Spirit is our Mind, then each of our spirituality is different. Our spiritual practice is an art. However you channel your subconscious, however you communicate with it and express it, is entirely unique to YOU.

My casting today felt perfect for Summer Solstice. It reminded me of this segment in Be Here Now.

SURF HOW YOU SURF.

“The Way is The Harmony of the Universe. When one comes into the spirit, when one sees how it is, one understands that behind all the individual differences (Man-wombman, big-little, Old-young, good-bad).

Every label you can think of becomes background instead of figure what stands out is: Here we are here & now that’s all there is and if it isn’t beautiful, man there’s nothing.

So you say: Well, I can’t have it beautiful now. But, later! When we get the food home it will be beautiful. Later never exists. What’s happened to life insurance, to tenure, to planning, saving, responsibilities? Nothing’s happened to any of it!

Surfing: Either you do it like it’s a big weight on you or you do it as part of the dance. When you understand “The thought is the thought of the thoughtless your singing and dancing is no other than the voice of the dharma.”
